Lancaster County fabricator playing big role in I

The latest breaking updates, delivered straight to your email inbox.

Gov. Josh Shapiro visited High Steel Structures, which recently completed the first of 16 steel girders that will be used to rebuild I-95 in Philadelphia.

Fixing the section of I-95 that collapsed in Northeast Philadelphia has been a statewide effort, including fabricating massive steel girders in Lancaster County needed to prop up the new section of an overpass destroyed after a fiery and deadly tanker truck crash in June.

Forging steel girders like the ones needed for the I-95 rebuild could take several months, but Shapiro said High Steel Structures has been able to prioritize the project and do that work in just two months. He said the effort reflected how solving problems without letting things like political differences get in the way can lead to greater achievement.

"Whatever it takes, they G-S-D — they Get Stuff Done," he said.

Rusty Wynegar, vice president of operations for High Steel Structures, credited the firm's workers with being able to step up to the task.

"There's no one more that deserves the credit other than the amazing workforce that we have here. We have a lot of skilled trades talents, and engineering department that's phenomenal," Wynegar said.
